ABOUT Idries Shah Media
Over the many decades of his professional career, my father, Idries Shah produced scores of titles relating to philosophy, traditional psychology, and human thought.
He is credited with releasing the first accessible material on Sufism within the Occident, and for introducing the concept of ‘Teaching-Stories’ to the West in a way that enabled this ancient instructional tool to be used by everyone – from academics to lay-people.
Published the world over in a multitude of languages, Shah’s corpus is widely regarded as one of the most important twentieth century contributions to the humanities.
Idries Shah Media has been established to release fresh collections of work by Idries Shah – including new anthologies, facsimiles of his original manuscripts and handwritten notes, as well as unpublished books, and a miscellany of other material gleaned from his private archives.
Founded upon roots that Shah himself left, Idries Shah Media will operate along the same lines as the publishing firm he established, The Octagon Press. For half a century, Octagon released Shah’s work, as well as associated material by Sufi Masters, and others.
Our aim is to present elements of Idries Shah’s corpus in new ways, allowing both the casual reader and the serious student to consider his essays and aphorisms, teaching-stories and explanatory texts, from a range of different angles.
Through its online presence, Idries Shah Media will make available publications, audio recordings, and other work, spanning a range of media. The titles presented in this initial brochure constitute a first phase.
Over coming months and years, we plan to present a full range of literary and archival material, as well as workbooks, study guides, all of which will assist students of Shah’s corpus to access his work in the most meaningful possible way.
And, with time, we plan to release Sufi Classics as The Octagon Press once did, in addition to new translations, and fresh appreciations of key work.
At Idries Shah Media, we are using cutting-edge digital technologies to produce new editions of work that, until now, has been available solely in paper formats.
As digital media platforms develop at exponential speed, our teams are working to release material in a range of ways – including conventional paper books, as well as eBooks, audio books, and online read-for-free editions.
The editorial process involves archivists, who scan original manuscripts and notes, as well as a team of photographers, graphic designers, and proof readers.
We strive to present Shah’s work in its original form, releasing facsimiles, notes, and ephemera as they have not been seen before.
Thank you for your interest and for your support!
