The million words of Idries Shah’s core material on Sufism and Human Thought constitute a complete body of work in their own right. Yet, the existing translations of Shah’s key titles are often imperfect and unreliable, and lack continuity.

With the digital age now firmly established, we see a desperate need to (a) make Shah’s core million words available in the main languages of the world and (b) ensure that these new translations have absolute continuity.

This entails working with translators with the specific skill required to present the nuances of Idries Shah work, as well as checking and rechecking the translations. And then, checking again throughout the typesetting and publication process.

Over five years, in an initial phase, our plan is to translate Shah’s core million words into Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, German, and Portuguese.

A secondary phase will add further languages, including Arabic, Malaysian, and Indonesian, thereby allowing a vast readership to benefit from Shah’s corpus. And, in the future, additional translations of Idries Shah titles (such as World Tales, Observations, Letters & Lectures etc.) will be released.

As with other titles published by Idries Shah Media, the translations will be made available to read for free on the IdriesShah.Media site, and will form a central part of a forum dedicated to Shah’s thinking and his work.

The focus will be in presenting translations of Shah’s work ‘all under one roof’, in a way that provides continuity and control – and allowing editions that will deliver Idries Shah’s legacy to future generations.
